Steampunk Mermaid-DT Card for The Corrosive Challenge Blog

Hi everyone! Today I'm sharing the card I made for challenge #196 at The Corrosive Challenge Blog.
The theme this fortnight is Show Us Your Metal.
Create a project incorporating metal embellishments/hardware.
Our sponsor is Delicious Doodles.
Once again I've used this awesome digi, Steampunk Mermaid.
I also used that image on this card here.
The paper is from Prima's Art Journal and the fabulous frame is from MME.(circa.2006)
The chipboard Streampunk heart was from Make It Crafty. Again one of those beautiful discontinued chipboard accents.
I embossed it with some Fran-tage in Shabby White.
I love that stuff!
I also added some cheesecloth, a TH hinge clip, a couple of pearls, and some Prima mini cogs and gears.
I used a Martha Steward punch and punched a sea scallop from white embossed vellum.
If you've got a creation with metal on it be sure to link it up on TCCB and you could win 4 digis of your choice from Delicious Doodles.
Thanks for stopping by! Hugs!

Life Is What You Make It-Kit and Clowder- Whimsy stamps contest

Hi everyone,
today I'm sharing the card I made for the Whimsy Stamps Customer Appreciation Contest over at the Kit and Clowder blog.
I've colored up this Wee Stamps image called Winter Fairy, and added a Fun Life Ticket sentiment from Raindrop Echo Designs, that reads,  "Life Is What You Make It". There is also a matching die cut for the ticket stamps. So fun!
As I began making this card I thought it would be a great Winter/Christmas card but it's actually perfect as a Canadian Spring card!
So lovely to have it snowing on the first day of Spring!!! Not!
Well the best attitude I can have about that is like this Winter fairys..Just make the best out of it!
(breathe)
Even though it took me forever to decide on what colors to use on this adorable image, the card itself got made up in record time!(And by record time I mean under four hours). Again I was thinking, just Keep It Simple!!! Haha!
I attempted a little water coloring with TH distress ink and some Twinkling H2O for the background. Some of the ink lines smeared from the water but I think I was able to camouflage most of the smears with that wonderful Frantage!
Thanks for stopping in today and
 Happy Spring!
Hugs~!

Mermaid With Message In Bottle-Aurora WIngs

Hi Everyone!
Today I'm excited to share my mermaid creation!
You might know that for the last couple of weeks I've been taking Copic classes from Alyce at Kit and Clowder.
This image called, Mermaid with Message in Bottle- by Aurora Wings is one of the images Alyce showed us how to color up in her online class.
Here is how lovely she looks with Alyce's coloring.
Amazing right!?! I actually decided to take the color class, after I had already talked myself out of it because of how uniquely Alyce colored up this enchanting mermaid image.
I was inspired!
The scales I colored on the face were not working out how I wanted and the skin color underneath was starting to turn blotchy! Somehow, with a little patience and most likely due to the fact that I was coloring on Make It Crafty paper, the image was salvaged!
There's a lot going on in her hair especially with all those bubbly bubbles.
It amazes me how great the hair always turns out with this color strand technique...
even though it sometimes starts out looking like it's going to be a hot mess!
This awesome image and coloring technique definitely kept me challenged!
The class is money well spent! Thanks Alyce!
I couldn't stop staring at this coloring after it was all done, even the mistakes I had made didn't bother me.
It must be those eyes!! They are captivating!
I was so inspired by what I had just colored that I decided this was the image that I was going to use in the new Prima Metal Frame I had just picked up at my LSS over the weekend.
It was a combination of this image as well as the fabulous frame that inspired me to create this finished piece of art.
How awesome are these new Prima frames
When you use them to create 3D cards the possibilities are endless!
I also picked up a retro tv frame as well. I'm going to hoard it until I come across the perfect image and theme to use with it.
As I was going through my stash to pick out the things that I felt would reflect the image I found this antiqued key with scripture engraved on it.
I looked up the scripture, and that verse became the beginning of the story I wanted to create.
It turned into a spiritual reflection piece that resembles a little bit of me.
The scripture on the key is Ephesians 6:19
Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
I added an anchor, because Christ is the anchor for my soul.Hebrews 6:19
If I had to sum up the bible(The Message) with one verse it would have to be John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
That felt like the right verse to share so that's what I wrote on the  paper message in the miniature glass bottle.
I added some  beach sand, shells, and mermaid scales into the bottle as well, and hung a little silver dangle charm with the word HOPE engraved on it.
There are many scriptures about Hope and some of my go to verses are found in the Psalms. One of my favorite about hope, is Psalm 119:114
I added the awesome TH metal crown to the top of the frame because it reminds me that I am a daughter of The King 2 Corinthians 6:18
Just meditating on that promise makes me stand a little taller, and smile a little brighter :)
I had also just picked up a package of the new Prima Junkyard Findings Street Signs and thought "This Way" was the perfect sentiment for the "entrance" of my "card"
(I could also have used the "Your Path" street sign. It was a toss up)
I was born into a very spiritual family and this all made perfect clear sense to me but my husband, who is newer to spirituality said he just didn't get the "This Way" thing. I quoted  John 14:6  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
..so yes, "This Way" to the treasure!
Yeah, I like when it all comes together like that!
I save all of my broken jewelry to use in art projects at some later date and I upcycled some great pieces to adorn this frame with!
The links of chain with pearls and crystals are from a pair of old jeans. Jean jewelery I guess? The strands would dangle from two belt loops.
It was such a hipster look that it's a wonder that it's not still trending!
I think the chains look better on the frame than it did on my jeans...just sayin!
The strand of tri colored rhinestones used to be a bracelet but the stretchy in the metal somehow got out stretched. How does that even happen? I hardly even wore it!
It came in a set of three strands and the other two strands of the bracelet are still functioning like a bracelet and not an anklet like this one was.
I love detail so I had to keep adding to my 3D card.
I embossed a TH chipboard label diecut with Shabby white Frantage, and used it to frame the polymer clay embellishment that I made. It says Dare To Dream.
I've created a polymer clay embellishment tutorial here.
I added a mirror in the shape of a water splat,(that's right, a water splat shaped mirror) some cheese cloth, a few paper flowers, a starfish charm which also got embossed along with the anchor, with more Frantage.
I also added a strip of silver netting ribbon and a few crystal baubles to the inside bottom of the frame  and used the foliage part of the TH Tattered Pine cone die to make the colorful glittered corals that are placed among the flowers.
I added some pearl and rhinestone recollections which were perfect to create more bubbles coming out of the mermaids hair. I love that little detail!
I found a colored jem in the shape of a cross and added that to dangle from one of the broken chains.
I wanted to add some beautiful sea shells to this piece but I guess that's one thing I don't really have in my craft stash so I grabbed a treasured shell from my souvenir shell jar to adorn this oceanscape.
I adhered everything with E-6000 silicon glue.
I gave the bottle in the image a coat of glossy accents and quickly wiped some silver alcohol ink to the street sign,
Oh I almost forgot about the smexy retro mermaid on the side of the frame!
Isn't that embellie fun!
It's a lasered wood piece that I found in a mixed media shop. I glued a magnet on to the back and stuck it to the front of the frame.
I think that's all the deets!
I love how it turned out!
Thanks for stopping in today! Hugs!

Rockabilly Boom-DT card for The Corrosive Challenge

Hi friends! Today I'm sharing the card I made for the new challenge at
The theme for challenge #195 is Go Green.
This challenge has three options. Select as many as you'd like: 1) use the color green 2) create a St. Patrick's Day project 3) use something recycled on your creation
Our sponsor for this challenge is The Stamping Chef.
I love this image! Rockabilly Boom! I couldn't wait to work with this digi!

I love pin up girl images so I was uber inspired to make this card.
I used my creative license and drew a circ 1945 shark face onto the bomb and added the words, "Howdy Boys"

After I colored this fun image I gathered a basketful of scrapbook/card making paraphernalia from my "stash" room of everything I thought I could use. When I grabbed the bag of metal buttons to decide if that was something I wanted to add to my card, I couldn't believe one of those metal buttons had a decal of a pin up girl riding a bomb!! I love when that happens! Yeah I had to use that!
The sentiment, "You are Awesome my friend" is a Kraftin Kimmie Trinket.
The paper is from Best Creations Ink-Space Age glitter pack
You can check out more Green inspiration from the rest of the DT on TCCB. Link
up with us and you could win 3 digis from TSS

Now that I've shared my card I also wanted to share a pic of  my new grandson Daniel!
Someone pinch me! I'm the grandmother of 7 grandchildren!!
Every day is such a blessing!
Thanks for stopping by! Hugs!

Shabby Chic Tags-Tag Swap

Swapped Group Tags

These are the tags I made for the monthly tag swap that I'm involved in at my local scrapbook store.
The theme for February was Shabby Chic.
I've wanted to try this Gesso and spray technique for a while so this was a fun one to do!
I began by cutting out the dies from chipboard and gathered a plethora of  flowers, beads, lace, paper doilies, charms, buttons, and pins.
I glued everything onto Prima tags with podgy and fabric tac. When the glue was dry I gave everything a good solid coat of Gesso.
Then the fun began!
When the Gesso had dried I sprayed the tags with an assortment of spay ink.
I used watered down Dyllusion colors and used my heat tool to speed up the drying between spraying each color.
I also used the spray inks on the seam binding which I tied through the TH hinge clips. Those metal clips colored up really great after they were covered with the Gesso.
The Bliss sentiment came from a SU set.
I thought this would make a great Wedding gift tag so I also added oval silver charms I had picked up from Michaels' a couple of years ago, that are engraved with."To Love And To Cherish".
Check out the group tags! I love them all!
The theme for March is Quirky so I'm doing some brainstorming for that one.
Thanks for stopping by! Hugs!

Tiddly Inks Fairy Fae Catches A Star-Colour Along With Alyce

Hello everyone! Today I'm sharing the card I made using the image  Fairy Fae Catches Stars from Tiddly Inks.
I colored this image up while watching another video of Colour Along with Alyce.
I wasn't able to color along live but watched the video a few days later.
It will still be up for a couple of more weeks and you can watch it here.
In this session Alyced focused on coloring pleats.
This was a fairly new technique for me but I'm pretty happy with how this image turned out.
I even tried doing a little water color around the image but the only water colors I own are a very light icy toned pallet of Sparkling H20's.
I think I've had that pallet for 6 years or more and have now used it twice.
Last week I decided to sign up for the Skin and Hair class Alyce is offering and I'm glad I did.
I feel like I have a better idea now on how to color hair in a way that I like.
I was worried the classes might be too beginner for me but there was a ton of new information to discover which I was very pleased with! Now just to put it all into practice.
I sprinkled a little Frantage around the image and also embossed the oval label, chipboard corners, and the Prima resin star.
I used some Crystal Effects and clear glass marbles over the wings.
It took a little away from all the detail I had just colored into the wings but still gave the wings a really interesting look and tons of texture.
I found this wonderful piece of gold star lame ribbon in my stash and had the perfect two toned purple and green sheer ribbon to turn into a bow.
The sentiment,"You Are My Inspiration" was stamped into white clay and painted with mica powders before baking.
The paper is from a discontinued Prima pack called Firefly.
Thanks fro stopping by today! Hugs!

Christmas Tag Swap-Bombshell Stamps-Man's Ruin

Group Tags

I've been involved in a monthly tag swap at my local scrapbook store, The Inked Stamper.
I've already blogged about the January tag swap with the Steampunk theme here.
The swap group started last November and the theme was Christmas. We took December off so there were no tags to swap that month.
It's taken me so long to blog about this tag I'm not quite sure of the details anymore.
I used a fun stretchy garter like ribbon, some black boa feather, glitter paper, and I made the "swizzle stick" with beads. Lots of glitter and gloss on her outfit and shoes.
I also used Viva Inka Gold on the back of the tag and here's a little note to self...DO NOT SHAKE those little pots of metallic color before you open them. Out of habit I shook my jar before opening it and as I started to peel the foil off the top a reaction happened and paint squirted out all over me like silly string. Good think I like glitter on my clothes! Yeah that stuff is permanent!
I peeled the the foil all the way off and capped it. The next day I tried opening the jar to use on my tags and this time when I opened the lid another chemical reaction occurred and there was an eruption with paint bubbling up and down the sides of the pot. There was also a very strong chemical order! Ick!
Thankfully I had opened the jar in the sink because I was expecting something crazy like that to happen again!(It makes a semi-permanent mess in the sink too so don't wait till morning to clean it off) Two months later I tried to use the Viva again but this time when I opened the jar the paint inside was completely hard like cement.
Well at least I got a little bit of use out of it?
Other than that ginormous little issue with the product, I love it! Hopefully I will get it replaced by the distributor through my LSS.

Thanks for stopping in! Hugs!

Little Hummingbird-DT card for The Corrosive Challenge Blog

It's the beginning of March and I have no idea where the last two months have gone.
Time just keeps humming along!
Speaking of humming...how delightful is this sweet humming bird image from Mel Jen Designs?
Today I'm sharing the card I created for The Corrosive Challenge Blog where the theme this fortnight  is Animals.
Our sponsor for this challenge is of course, MelJen Designs and the image I've used is
As I was making this card I kept thinking, simple...keep it simple....haha! Maybe this is a simple as it gets. I don't know what happened.
I had just got 4 new die cuts in the mail the morning I made this card and I had to at least use a couple of my new toys.
I used the sizzix mini Rosette  die cut and the Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles.
I added some cheesecloth, and sugar candies, rhinestones, a little bit of lace, a doily, wire curls, and some lovely chipboard corner pieces which I painted with Picket Fence Distress Paint.. I got those chipboard pieces from Make It  Crafty last year before Zoe stopped selling them. I'm glad I stocked up on an assortment of chipboard pieces as well as the MIC paper(my favorite) which she also no longer sells right now. Please bring it all back, Zoe!
I also added some mini clay hearts from my stash. I had made them long ago for some dough art ornaments I was making at the time. I always loved making my own embellies.
(by this stage of the card, the idea of simple was out the window)
I added some Shabby Blue Frantage around the image and did some edging with stickles.
The paper is from Prima Art Jouranl.

Stay warm friends...Spring is in a couple more weeks.
Thanks for stopping by today! Hugs!
